Flirt like Cage

A silly little bot that provides dating advice in the style of Nicolas Cage.

The things about these GPT bots is that their standard output is just boring. Its long winded, wordy, and flat. And all of that is the opposite of a coaching personality. Coaching has a range of styles, but at the core of it is rapport. Dating and flirting require so much nuance, so the idea of building a dating coach using GPT just felt so bland. So I gave it a personality.

What I learned

I built the bot in under five minutes. I didn’t think much about the outputs, even after testing it. It’s just a fun bot. If I were building a flirting coach bot for a company, I’d definitely want to test the personality with users before launching. I wonder what type of persoanlity would resonate most. with people looking for dating advice. Or would it be more helpful to have a bot that changed personalities depending on your needs?

Building this GPT did make me wonder about copyright and likeness. Does Nic Cage have an opinion on people building bots in his likeness? I instructed the prompt to focus on characters from his movies, not necessarily him. It’s supposed to be a mashup of characters.

But Nicolas Cage is a legend and people construct his personality from his iconic characters. If I were a legend I don’t know if I’d be irritated or thrilled people made bots in my likeness. After all, actors are dealing with big threats from studios who want to use their likeness without their consent..

So I didn’t so much learn on this one as yet again wonder how this technology is going to impact people. It’s not all fun and games for some people.
